Greetings earthlings. We are DINO-TECHNO-BOTS. Our mission on earth is to Fuck Shit Up. Come dance while we threaten you with our blinky lights and ass-shaking beats...

This takes some explaining: I compose and also DJ dance music. When I'm performing live original material, I don't like sitting behind a laptop screen. It's boring for me, and it's boring to watch. The dinobots are an extension of the taplight music interface pictured left. Taplights are used to turn on/off various drum loops and sequences that I've programmed into Reaktor. In addition to the five taplights, there's a remote control that turns a sixth music loop on/off. When you activate the remote, not only does a new loop get added into the mix -- but 21 blinking spinning beeping dino-techno-bots crash around on stage or underfoot!

WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO PRESS THE SHINY BLUE BUTTON? Who wouldn't? Well go ahead. It requires no special skill, so the whole idea behind this is that it can be safely given to some lucky person in the listening/dancing audience. The software that responds to the remote control automatically corrects for timing, so no matter when the person presses the button, the additional loop is guaranteed to be synch with the rest of the music or the DJ. Image right: The red circle indicates that the dino-bots are activated. If this picture had sound, you'd now hear a funky-ass beat. Your arms would flop uncontrollably. Your feet would move against your will. All your bass are belongs to us. Grrrrr. |

What kinds of events will the dinobots attend? Canton can do a solo show of original music using the taplights and dinobots together. Or, if you're a DJ, canton can set things up so the dinobots are just used to contribute to your regular performance. Quality tempo control in the software means the taplights & dinobots follow the DJ's tempo changes, not the other way around. |
