For
this commercial, the producers wanted a sort of retro "boogie
nights" feel. After recording the basic groove, I recruited
a friend in Chicago to add the disco strings and clav line. (He's
better at 70's style keyboard than I am.) Since we collaborated
over the Internet (using Rocket
Network) getting this outside material didn't add any
time to the project. All music proposals as well as the final
master mix were delivered to the client over the Internet.

This
project was commissioned on a tight schedule, with about one week
left for going from concept to approval. None the less, we were
able to explore a number of different genres (drum 'n' bass, techno,
atmospheric) before settling on a bigbeat style track mixed with
a traditional "truck commercial" type of guitar solo.
And yes, that is Bruce Willis doing the voiceover, and no I don't
know how they convinced him to do it...

A
friend in school created this five minute stop-animation film
using one of my songs as a background track. The song is "Eleven
Four". It's a high-energy breakbeat, almost drum 'n' bass
tune, but what makes it crazy special is that instead of being
in four-four time like 99.9% of all electronic music, it's in
eleven-four time... Try counting the beats, it's fun.
